Karma Yoga

"Karma Yoga is the yoga of action, rooted in one's own Dharma, in service to humanity (or God), without expectations." Anjali Rao

Since 2014, Lorien has organized several benefits for nonprofit organizations that align with her Dharma, working with people facing cancer. While people of all genders, ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic circumstances are diagnosed with cancer, treatment and survival outcomes are certainly not equal between Black / Indigenous / People of Color (BIPOC) and white Americans. Lorien offers her cancer support free of charge to any person in need regardless of race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, religion, national origin, gender identity and economic status in an effort to provide fairness and inclusion to those facing cancer and in hopes of lightening the burden of this health disparity.

Cancer CAREpoint is a nonprofit in the Silicon Valley that offers free non-medical services to anyone dealing with cancer and in 2014 Lorien founded the yoga benefit festival, Pose 4 a Purpose to raise funds for Cancer CAREpoint.

In addition to working with California nonprofits, Lorien has now co-founded her own nonprofit called Complementary Cancer Care, INC that offers services to people in Brevard County, FL who are dealing with cancer. Support groups, mind-body classes and educational programs are all available - free of charge - for cancer patients, survivors, medical professionals and caregivers. Visit Complementary Cancer Care's website for more information.

NOTE: As of March, 2020, all services are offered online due to the pandemic which means participants are no longer limited to local residents. Know someone facing cancer? Please send them our link!

The upside of moving everyone online during a pandemic is that Lorien got to participate in another version of Pose 4 A Purpose in 2020!

Pose 4 A Purpose "Erase Cancer" Weekend

In 2016 we partnered with several local yoga studios, each with their own unique ideas about what special events to offer in order to raise funds. From kids yoga to partner yoga, 108 sun salutations to classes accompanied by live music, from chanting to meditating in a hammock... these studios provided something for everyone!
